With a BFA in Fine Arts under her belt and 18+ years in the floral industry, Sharla truly understands how color, composition, and design plays into floral & event design.

Sharla’s love for flowers began to blossom when a close family friend launched her first flower shop out of the back of her father’s law office in the 1970’s. Since this time Sharla has followed the path to happiness through flowers.

With memories from the past, Sharla is able to draw on that childhood enthusiasm for flowers and does so for each of her clients today.  Each project is embraced with excitement and commitment to deliver floral design that is rooted in a deep love for her craft.

Sharla’s design ability and desire to create is far reaching and ranges from intimate weddings to elaborate event design.

We are a group of creative, wacky, sometimes silly, but always obsessed with beauty people, who have come together to create artful floral design for events both intimate and grand. We love what we do and it shows.

We begin the creative process by meeting to better understand the client’s needs and the scope of work needed. It can range from straightforward floral design to more elaborate event design.  We share inspiration images, pinterest pages, and quirky details that make each person unique and special because the nuances that vary from one client to the next can be celebrated through flowers so beautifully.

After a consultation with her client, Sharla takes all the details and heads to the flower market where she begins playing with flowers and textures.  Always taking the time to smell the roses!

Event Design is another layer beyond the scope of floral design that enables Sharla to truly create beautiful environments for her clients. The event design can range from development of the color story and palette, linen & tabletop design, furnishings, lighting, tenting, draping, and various other design details and rentals. Sharla will personally manage the design process from linen selection to overall event design to keep the event aesthetic cohesive and reflective of the client's style.

Sharla receives most of her business through referrals from her past clients, which allows her to take a very personal approach to her business.  She strongly believes in taking care of her clients with sensitivity and enthusiasm; much in the ways she approaches floral design.

Sharla and her creative staff work from a Design Studio as opposed to a retail space to ensure that the environment is enriching and conducive to creating fresh and truly artful floral arrangements.

Sharla’s floral designs graced the cover of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine in the spring of 2010 and speaks to the quality of work she and her staff produce. Since 2002, Sharla’s work has been published over 30 times in various leading industry magazines.

Sharla Flock Designs owns a vast selection of rental items, many of which have been created by Sharla’s uber-crafty & talented, husband Ravi. We are continually updating our rental vessels and custom built inventory and look forward what the next wedding will bring into fruition.

How Many Events Does Sharla Flock Designs do in a week?

Sharla does not take on more work than she can personally manage, which is why she books events well in advance. It's important that the integrity of the designs always stay a priority. Limiting the amount of events and weddings ensures that this process continues and her enthusiasm does not diminish.

However, last minute weddings and events are always welcomed if our schedule is open. Sharla also encourages Bay Area non-profit companies to contact SFD as she welcomes event work, especially those companies who are not-for-profit, but for good.

How Early do I need to Secure my Florist?

Wedding Season in the bay area begins in May and runs through October. Sharla recommends that if your wedding date falls within this time period you should plan on securing your florist within 6-12 months to ensure that your wedding is treated with the sensitivity it deserves.

In terms of booking weddings and events, Sharla recommends that her clients begin by completing the Wedding Questionnaire . This helps to define the client’s needs and expectations in advance. Once the questionnaire is received Sharla will follow up with each client about a suggested budget and scheduling a consultation to discuss in detail.
