About Sharla

Sharla, Owner and Creative Director of Sharla Flock Designs in San Francisco is passionate about nature, art, and flowers.

Sharla grew up in a small town in northern Washington State nestled in the Okanogan valley where a close family friend was given the opportunity to rent a space in her Father’s office to launch her first flower shop.

Whether it was this or her parents teaching her the joy of working with your hands and the earth, her love and desire to play with flowers was unleashed.

In the summer of 2006, Sharla was married in this same small town where she created the floral arrangements in the same space that she used to love to visit as a child, her Dad’s office.

With memories from the past, Sharla is able to draw on that childhood enthusiasm for flowers and does so for each of her clients today.  Each project is embraced with excitement and commitment to deliver floral arrangements that come from a deep love for her craft.

What Makes Sharla Flock Designs so Special & Unique?

First, Sharla comes from an extensive art background, which lays the groundwork for her understanding of color, composition, and design. She has been working with flowers as her medium of choice since 1992 and has continued to follow this path as her life's passion ever since.

Sharla Flock Designs blossomed in the spring of 2002 and has continued to ripen and evolve throughout the changing seasons with help from her numerous clients.

Sharla receives most of her business through referrals from her past clients, which allows her to take a very personal approach to her business.

Sharla strongly believes in taking care of her clients with sensitivity and enthusiasm; much in the ways she approached floral design.

Sharla and her creative staff work from a Design Studio as opposed to a retail space to ensure that the environment is enriching and conducive to creating fresh and truly artful floral arrangements.

How Does the Design Process Work?

Sharla personally designs all bridal work and is passionate about the details.

After a consultation with her client, Sharla takes all the details about color, personal taste of the client, the attire of the party, personality, and the emotions that the client wishes to be evoked and heads to the flower market where she begins playing with flowers and textures. Always taking the time to smell the roses!

Sharla adores her vendors at the market and does her best to support local growers whenever possible so she always has the freshest flowers to provide her clients.

How Many Events Does Sharla Flock Designs do in a week?

Sharla does not take on more work than she can personally manage, which is why she books events well in advance. It’s important that the integrity of the designs always stay a priority. Limiting the amount of events and weddings ensures that this process continues and her enthusiasm does not diminish.

However, last minute weddings and events are always welcomed.

Sharla also encourages Bay Area non-profit companies to contact SFD as she welcomes event work, especially those companies who are not-for-profit, but for good.

How Early do I need to Secure my Florist?

Wedding Season in the bay area begins in May and runs through October. Sharla recommends that if your wedding date falls within this time period you should plan on securing your florist within 6-12 months to ensure that your wedding is treated with the sensitivity it deserves.

Sharla typically figures that clients will spend between $45-$85 per person on flowers for their wedding, with wedding season minimums beginning at $5500.

Sharla Flock Designs may also assist you to create the overall Event Design.

Wedding and Event spaces can, and if budget allows, should be transformed in order to reflect the client's personality through lighting, linens, and other special touches provided by Sharla and her staff.

When choosing Sharla Flock Designs for your wedding or event, you are consciously deciding to ensure that your special event will be artful, unique, and created by someone who is passionate about your vision and is focused on the details.

Sharla is looking forward to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with you.
